New Mahindra Scorpio

A NEW engine, the third in five years, is yet another step in the right direction for the Scorpio. Like Tata Motors, Mahindra & Mahindra is deep into a new 2.2-litre diesel engine project. Also like Tara, the motor has been designed with Austrian firm AVL’s cooperation and has an expected power output of around 140bhp. And we have information on how the motor is coming along as well. People who have driven it claim the difference between the old and new mo­tors is vast, the new one very smooth, punchy and driveable. Considerably lighter than the outgoing one, the motor is sure to improve the dynamics of the bouncy Scorpio. Also expected is another facelift for the SUV, with some radically-styled new parts in the pipeline which will go a long way in keeping the Scorpio fresh and young. Sadly, there are no improve­ments slated on the handling and dynamics fronts.
