New Toyota Corolla

WITH ITS Camry-like design and refreshed powertrains, the new Corolla is sure to be even better than the outgoing car. A car Toyota sent back to the drawing board, this one is targeted at emerging markets. The most interest­ing part of the design is the move to the one-form shape of the car that flows from the nose all the way to the rear. The front and rear pillars that hold up the roof are now more raked as a result. Also, the wider track of the front and rear wheels has liberated more useable room for the passengers and the designers have paid particular attention to getting the interiors to look airy and large.

Cabin quality is also expected to take a step forward with the new car and Toyota is looking to deliver a high quality tactile experience. The motors that will power the car will either be a revised version of the current 1.8 or an all-new, high-output 126bhp 1.6 motor. However, a 125bhp, all-aluminium, common-rail diesel will be the new Corolla's trump card but that may not be available at the time of launch. The non-in­dependent rear suspension system remains a legacy of the Corolla’s hatchback origins.
