Healing with Ayurveda
Ayurveda goes far beyond being a mere system of medicine. It is a way of life, propounded specially for the upliftment of mankind.
Ayurveda, meaning “knowledge of life and longevity”, is perhaps the oldest existing body of knowledge on the healing process. This highly evolved holistic and natural healing system not only addressed the problems of the body and mind but also of the human spirit and consciousness. This knowledge system, which is in perfect harmony with the Indian thought process, and the origin of which can be traced to the Vedas, does not aim to merely cure of a disease, instead, it looks to reharmonise and restore the living body to its natural state of equilibrium.
The original Ayurveda treatises give a comprehensive description of how to live one’s life in tune with nature, free of disease and illness. Ayurveda asserts that the living body is only a microcosm of the macrocosm that is nature, and all elements that exist in the latter are reflected in the living body. This close interaction with nature forms the basis of the indigenous thought process and in Ayurveda, too, this is the foundation on which all the theories, principles, classifications, et cetera, are built.
The pioneers
Arya Vaidya Pharmacy (AVP), referred to by the Washington Post as The Mayo Clinic of Ayurvedic medicine, was founded in Coimbatore by the late Arya Vaidyan P.V. Rama Varier in 1943. Twelve years of arduous study of Ayurveda under the gurukul system had moulded the late P.V. Rama Varier into a renowned ‘Arya Vaidyan’.
Ayurveda is a science that has, through the ages explored possibilities the human body. It has taught mankind how to live in harmony with nature for no one can escape the consequences pollution however insignificant seem.
